ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION...

North Carolina Amateur Wrestling Association is the state affiliate of the national governing body for the sport of wrestling in the United States of America, USA Wresting, or USAW.

The purpose of NCAWA is to promote, develop, and foster wrestling in the state of North Carolina. NCAWA uses to subordinate models to accomplish this. Our folkstyle, or collegiate wrestling, model is North Carolina Amateur Wrestling Association for Youth or NCAWAY. NCAWAY includes a budding developmental league for first and second year wrestlers, eighth grade and below. Our Olympic model is North Carolina USA Wrestling or NCUSAW. The Olympic model includes styles other than freestyle and Greco-Roman, such as beach and Sambo.

NCAWA focuses on state development by encouraging local organizations to become strong, viable organizations. We recognize that each community is different and may need unique operating procedures. At the state level, we operate in a manner that retains the most resources possible within our state so that as a state we can continue to grow and develop. We accomplish this by:

  • Providing economical membership rates

  • Providing a system that promotes hosting local events to draw people into the sport

  • Maintaining a cost effective membership system

  • Using a financial model that retains the majority of resources within our state

  • Participating in a national event that gives back to our state

By using these models, NCAWA is able to offer a variety of choices for both individual athletes and clubs.

CHOICES...

Clubs and athletes have choices for registration/sanction. Clubs may register as a NCUSAW club, a NCAWAY club, or both. Athletes can register as a NCAWAY athlete affiliated with a NCAWAY club; as an unaffiliated (independent) NCAWAY athlete; as a NCUSAW athlete affiliated with a NCUASAW club; or as an unaffiliated (independent) NCUSAW athlete. 1.

You must have a minimum of one person designated as club director or head coach who is registered with USAW as a coach, pairing official, or mat official. This provides your organization with an individual who has a valid background check good for two-years. 2. You do not have to wait for your background check to be completed prior to sending in your club registration form. Simply fill out the form, attach your check, and mail it in.
  3. You will receive a user name and password via email. This provide you club level access to the membership database. Log in and add your athlete members to the database.
